Police action in Matane Students detained in a school Canada
A significant police operation, the causes of which have not yet been disclosed, necessitated the confinement of students and staff at Matane Secondary School on Monday morning.
Several policemen of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were deployed to the establishment on Avenue Saint-Redemptur in the morning. La Ville de Maten indicates that the artery is closed to circulation between the Cégep and the boulevard du Père-Lamarche.
At the time of writing these lines, students and staff were always in confinement “as a precautionary measure”, indicates SQ spokesperson Hélène St-Pierre.
As the operation is still ongoing, the provincial police corps has refused to reveal the reason behind the deployment. According to parents of students on social networks, rumors about an armed young man were probably at the origin of the operation.
A communication sent by email to students’ families from the school’s establishment confirmed that a “confinement barricade” was in progress and that students were asked to turn off their telephone rings.
At present they have not reported any injuries in this file.
