Operation Mahadev: Major Terrorists Involved in Pahalgam Attack, Neutralized

On July 29, Home Minister Amit Shah revealed in the Lok Sabha that the three terrorists who were killed by security forces in Operation Mahadev on the previous day were involved in the Pahalgam attack which was deadly. This was a massive intelligence-driven operation launched by the Indian Army-Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jammu & Kashmir Police; and the final result of this operation was the killing of the three lead terrorists involved in the attack in Baisaran Valley earlier this year.

All the three terrorists were named as Suleman Shah alias Faizal, Afghan and Jibran all of the terror group, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) a notorious terrorist group. Amit Shah added that Suleman Shah was the planner of Pahalgam attack and both Afghan and Jibran were senior A-category leaders in the LeT outfit.

A Wholesome Blow to Terrorist activities

The attack on the terrorists network in Jammu & Kashmir was a huge blow to the terrorists network. The mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack which targeted the life of innocent civilians and left the region in shock was Suleman Shah who was an alias of Faizal. Police are in the process of analyzing the arms found on the deceased terrorists as to establish whether they were the ones deployed in the Pahalgam attack.

The Role of Detained individuals in finding the Terrorists

Previously, reports also showed that two suspects had been arrested that gave shelter to the terrorists prior to the attack. Their collaboration made it clear that Suleman Shah, Afghan, and Jibran had a co-conspiring role in the Pahalgam attack. The arrested people identified the terrorists using photographs of their bodies taken to Srinagar and identified much faster.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) reports were able to confirm that all the three terrorists were Pakistanis and were affiliated to the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group. Their existence in the region has been a direct risk to the national security and their elimination is considered a big success to counter terrorism. This probe by the NIA, which has been considered based on the arrests and detention, has come up foremost with some evidence with regard to the role of the terrorists in the Pahalgam attack and other terrorism related activities in the region.
