Maruti Escudo is a midsize SUV which will go on sale on September 3, 2025. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate and others in the segment. Maruti has not provided much information but some interesting ones have been leaked to the press. The Escudo is a derivative of the Grand Vitara but the two models are to differ significantly. Five things to expect are as follows.
1. The most significant variance is the way the SUVs are going to be sold. The Escudo will be sold exclusively by the Arena showrooms and not at the up-market Nexa showrooms. This is comparable to M-S products, as with Ertiga, XL6 MPVs and other M-S brands are sold. The most costly model that would enter the Arena network will be the Escudo.
2. The Escudo will be one step under the Grand Vitara so as to enable it be priced lower. Some of the trims may even have prices that encroach on the Grand Vitara and the Brezza subcompact SUV.
3. The Escudo may be slightly extended than the Grand Vitara measuring at 4,345 mm length. Boot space should also be greater, and it will be all 5-seat only as in the case of Grand Vitara.
4. Maruti plans to transfer the 104bhp 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 88bhp CNG powertrain on the Grand vitara to the Escudo. No formal decision is yet made regarding whether the 116bhp petrol-hybrid engine would also be provided. Most will be likely to see the car maker abolish the potent hybrid powertrain in order to keep things cheap and lay a break between this Arena model and its kickass sibling at Nexa.
5. The Escudo will receive the Level 2 ADAS package lacking in the Grand Vitara. The rest of other cabin features must remain unchanged.
