Heavy Rain Hits Ahmedabad on Sunday, Leading to Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

Heavy Rain Ahmedabad has caused significant disruptions across the city, with roads flooded and traffic coming to a halt.

It was a rainy Sunday in Ahmedabad and the sky remained dark with very few people on the streets throughout the day. The capital, Gandhinagar was not an exception as it received rain too.

There were over 2 inches (50+ mm) of rain in many parts of Ahmedabad; areas as high as 4 inches (100+ mm) have been reported. The rain made lowlands roads look like water bodies and vehicles essentially came to a halt. The dark weather made most of the people stay at home since it felt unsafe.

Averagely 44.16 mm rainfall was witnessed in the 24-hour cycle, which ended at 6 am on Sunday, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) reported. However, the quantities varied in the city.

Area Rainfalls :

Chakudiya, Ramol, Usmanpura, Science City, Gota, Jodhpur, Dudheshwar, Maninagar: These areas received over 2 inches (50+ mm) of precipitation and were the worst affected by various water logging and congestions.
Other Areas: The remaining parts of Ahmedabad recorded between 1 inch (25+ mm) to 1.5 inches (37+ mm) of rain which also congested the traffic.

Due to the persistent flood they are preventing people to go out until the clouds disperse.

With the outlook of more rain expected because of the government weather agency, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicts more of it in the coming days. It is stated by the IMD that some areas in Gujarat such as Ahmedabad may experience extremely heavy rainfall in the following 48 hours. Local authorities have been instructed to be on the lookout of any emergency due to the rain.

The citizens are advised to follow any new weather changes along with the further rain alienation, meanwhile taking some measures to avoid their unplanned falls, accidents, or other road-traffic problems as waterlogging may occur.
