Trump Weighs Move to Reclassify Marijuana as Less Dangerous

Current President Donald Trump is concocting a great shift to be made in the drug policy of the United States: he is considering to reclassify marijuana as a weaker drug. That step would mellow out federal edicts and advance additional medical cannabis studies.

Trump had his say in a recent Wall Street Journal piece highlighting a high-profile fundraiser he hosted at his golf club in New Jersey at which tickets were rumored to fetch more than 1 million a plate.: Yet-big-names were present, such as Kim Rivers, CEO of top cannabis firm Trulieve. Rivers enticed Trump to proceed with the proposal.

It is not the first time Trump has dallied with marijuana reform. In 2024 he also supported a Florida ballot initiative to legalize recreational cannabis, an initiative that ultimately failed.

Whites House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson did not deny that the administration is considering the shift in policy but she only made the statement that the move would depend on the best interest of the people of the US.

In the event that it takes place, the redesignation of marijuana would be one of the most important federal cannabis policy amendments in decades and might pave the way to broader legalization-related discussions all around the nation.
