PM Modi Extends Greetings as Rahul Gandhi Turns 55: Political Wishes, Praise, and a Job Fair Mark the Day

A Day of Birthday Wishes, Political Unity, and Youth Empowerment

Rahul Gandhi birthday 2025 was marked by a rare moment of political civility, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly extended birthday wishes to the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha. Congress also celebrated the occasion by organising a mega job fair that offered over 5,000 opportunities to young job seekers across India.

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Congress leader and newly appointed Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, marked his 55th birthday with greetings pouring in from across the political spectrum—including an unexpected message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This marked the first time in five years that the Prime Minister publicly extended birthday wishes to the senior Congress leader—an act that, while brief, carried political significance in India’s deeply polarized environment.

Rahul Gandhi: A Political Scion and Voice of the Opposition

Rahul Gandhi, a five-term MP and ex-Congress president, is considered the de-facto face of the opposition. A scion of the Nehru-Gandhi family, which has had three Indian Prime Ministers, Gandhi still remains central to the direction of the Congress party, often cited as a possible leader post-2024 general elections, when he was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition.

Warm Wishes from INDIA Bloc and Party Leadership

Apart from PM Modi’s message, several INDIA bloc leaders and Congress allies extended heartfelt birthday wishes. Notably:

  • M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK leader, wrote: “Warm birthday wishes to my brother-in-ideals, @RahulGandhi – bound not by blood, but by thought, vision, and purpose. May you continue to stand firm and lead with courage. In our march towards a brighter India, victory shall be ours.
  • Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress President, praised Gandhi for his commitment to constitutional values and social justice: “Your actions consistently reflect the Congress party’s ideology of unity in diversity, harmony, and compassion… I wish you a long, healthy, and happy life ahead.

These tributes reflect not just personal affection but a growing recognition of Rahul Gandhi’s elevated role within the broader opposition framework.

Indian Youth Congress Organises Job Fair to Celebrate the Day

On the occasion of Rahul Gandhi’s Birthday with a difference, Indian Youth Congress (IYC) conducted a mega job fair in Delhi. Leaders of the IYC noted that the event attracted more than 100 companies and multinational corporations (MNCs) who provided over 5, 000 jobs to prospective youths.

A Symbolic Day in Indian Politics

Rahul Gandhi’s 55th birthday proved to be more than an age marker, but also a day that saw changing political equations, bipartisan gestures, and a continuation of the exercise to boost youth empowerment.

It is this potential cocktail of public goodwill, tangible support from allies and actual social intervention that has some believing that Gandhi’s tenure as Leader of the Opposition could announce the existence of a clearer and more assertive opposition front in the years to come.
